ABSTRACT
Some Early Head Start (EHS) programs are home-based and mainly deliver program services through weekly home visits and twice-monthly group socialization activities. Early Head Start is one of the five largest programs serving families and young children via home visits. Individual programs have flexibility in the content they choose as long as they meet guidelines set by the Office of Head Start. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore how the Family Life Education (FLE) approach was implemented at an EHS home visiting site, which transitioned from a child-centered toy approach to a FLE approach. The National Council on Family Relations is encouraged by the fact that the Head Start Performance Standards now include recognition of a “credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field” as that opens the door for family science graduates and Certified Family Life Educator.
