ABSTRACT

This book is written after having spent years teaching in primary schools and in a university working with trainee teachers. I use the word ‘trainee’ guardedly as my last intention is to actually train someone, but for ease of language, bearing in mind all the different settings in which people learn to be teachers, the term trainee is used in this book. I hope everyone on their journey in the teaching profession embraces learning in order to help make informed decisions based on the context in which they find themselves. Also because of the different routes into teaching I use the term ‘final placement’ throughout the book as a name for the final assessed placement trainee teachers undertake in school before becoming a qualified teacher.
