ABSTRACT

This chapter provides practical advice for newly qualified teachers on pacing and looking after themselves, good use of time, and resilience. An example of how to pace oneself throughout a term is provided, demonstrating how long term planning can help to reduce stress at key points in a term. There are also suggestions as to how a teacher can help themselves on a daily basis by addressing some key elements of practice, for example: low level disruption, marking, social media. Practical suggestions are also provided on being mindful of routinely addressing features of well-being.

Finally, advice is given on having a mind set that has the potential to help teachers cope with the demands of the teaching profession as well as advice on looking to the future and taking the next steps on the journey of being a teacher.
