ABSTRACT

This chapter helps trainee teachers plan for the different stages of applying for a job. Considerations as to whether a school is the ‘right match’ for the trainee teacher are raised. Do they hold the same values? Are they happy to work in a faith school? The importance of the initial visit to the school is explored.

Writing a letter of application is addressed. Examples are given highlighting the importance of personalising the letter to the school as well as key elements of practice that should be included.

Preparation for an observed lesson and the observed lesson are dealt with in detail, from how children enter and leave the classroom to key essentials to include in the lesson. The interview process and possible questions that might be asked are addressed as well as questions that the trainee teacher might ask.
