ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the importance of the link the newly qualified teacher can have with their training provider whilst transferring into the role as a fully qualified teacher; making the most of the relationships they will have formed with those who helped train them as well as the people on their training courses.

The chapter addresses the multi-faceted relationships that newly qualified teachers have to develop when starting their new job: headteacher, mentor, other teachers (SENCO/inclusion manager), additional support staff, parent/carers. Practical advice on how to begin to develop these different relationships is given.

Finally the chapter addresses the need for trust in any professional relationship and reminds the newly qualified teacher of the understanding of the need to be considerate of developing this in their new role from the outset.
