ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an overview of the internal and external operational health and safety governance arrangements that are in place which give assurance to the board, shareholders, and other stakeholders. The health and safety culture is driven from the top of an organization, and the board should give indications of the kind of culture required. The governance and leadership activities depend on the Top Managers in an organization operating at two levels, sometimes operating with clearly defined roles as the board and the executive team. The Health & Safety (H&S) Implementation Plan shall include information that is relevant to health and safety management which are summarized here under the following headings: policy, organization, competence and resources, culture, metrics, and reporting. The Executive team shall ensure the requirements of the Strategic H&S Plan are represented in the H&S Implementation Plan.
