ABSTRACT

In this section, Silberer continues to present a multitude of dreams, and proceeds to highlight their complex, symbolic nature. He reiterates his core concept of the “hochwertig” and its pervasiveness in the ignition of dreams. He overviews Freud’s theory of wish fulfillment and notes how images in dreams are sometimes screens for deeper, less socially acceptable impulses. However, he continues to profess his core construct that dream images are frequently condensed, and as such, multiply determined — not uniformly derived, nor dogmatically interpretable.
