ABSTRACT

Newsletters are another important example of owned media for organizations seeking a communication link with key publics. This chapter explores three areas of owned media: flyers and brochures, newsletters and corporate reports. The planning process for newsletters and organizational magazines involves attention to the wants, interests and needs of key publics and to the objectives of the organization. Meanwhile, governmental agencies and political groups are required to make public certain information, financial and otherwise. Flyers and brochures may have been the first written materials used for public relations purposes. When a message must last longer than it can with a flyer, public relations writers often turn to brochures. An investment company would want a brochure that alludes to its success, and a photography studio would want a brochure that showcases its best work. An annual report is a formal corporate progress report issued by a company or other type of organization.
