ABSTRACT

Youth is a preferred object for polls because youth surveys can be expected to reveal a good deal about future society. The data from the student survey conducted by the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna in the framework of the research program reveal, among other things, a high degree of satisfaction with the material situation, on the one hand, but also critical attitudes towards those who live in affluence. Furthermore, macropolitical culture is much more integrated into micropolitics than in the Polish case. In both cultures the male sex stands for objectivity, self-distance, instrumental intelligence, and emotional indifference. The survey was cross-cultural, but the German and Polish versions of the questionnaire were not identical due to the different cultural environments. Most of them say they favor a clean environment and a more just distribution of wealth, but it is doubtful whether this lip-service will ever translate into personal practice.
