ABSTRACT
One of the laboratories, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, located in Livermore, California, has been targeted for protest by an antinuclear organization in northern California, the Livermore Action Group. Critics of the antinuclear movement have in fact already raised the questions and have provided some answers. In sum, the main criticism of the antinuclear movement is that it is on the whole anti-intellectual, or is at least without reputable theoretical backing. Gandhi spent considerably more time than Thoreau in elaborating the intersubjective dynamics of nonviolent action that issues from personal conscience; but his notion of satyagraha must remain a mystery to the unbelieving skeptic. The question of pushing the nuclear button is one not simply of logical militancy against "life" or "nature" as an a priori category or pure concept. Max Weber presented an explicit answer to Kant's attempt to reconcile ethics and epistemology.
