ABSTRACT

The region to the West and South is bordered by the Cordilleras of Tilaran and Platanar, part of the mountain range which traverses Costa Rica. Costa Rica is one of the few Latin American countries in which the cooperative form of management is used for the distribution of electric energy. Major advances have been made in Costa Rica in providing a primary education to all segments of the population. Age of the head of the household, education of the head of the household, size of the landholdings, and the electriicy-free level of living scale are controlled. There is a slight correlation between the education of the head of the household and satisfaction with life situation. Flourescent tubes were occasionally used in the household, but were more common in commercial establishments. A common characteristic of households in the rural areas of developing countries is a relatively low level of energy consumption.
