ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the optimization performed for the rural electric system in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, based on the models described in Chapters 4 and 7. While the approach used here is relatively sophisticated compared to more conventional rural electrification planning techniques, it illustrates how certain newer concepts, such as supply quality and reliability, might play a key role in the case of some rural electrification systems.
