World wide scarcity of energy resources and high costs of power supply have highlighted the importance of energy conservation and elimination of waste by both producers and users of energy. Power system loss reduction is one of the principal ways of achieving conservation in the electric power sector. 1 Despite the modest (and likely short term) decline in oil prices in the mid 1980s, power system loss reduction continues to have much scope.
