ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the major rural electrification issues in two of the largest developing countries, Indonesia and Brazil. In view of the size and complexity of the countries concerned and space limitations, the discussion will be limited to the identification and analysis of some of the principal policy issues discussed in earlier chapters. The process described here would help provide decisionmakers in the countries concerned with a better understanding of the broad spectrum of rural electrification options and strategies available. More specific problems in areas such as investment planning, project analysis, demand analysis and forecasting, pricing, reliability optimization, and loss reduction are described in the case studies presented in Chapters 10 to 13.
