ABSTRACT

This chapter describes procedures for gathering primary data useful in forecasting probable long-range impacts. It discusses rating the National Economic Development, Environmental Quality, alternative, "recommended," and "no" plans. The chapter outlines procedures for completing a separated statement on the likely social impacts and effects of each of the plans. It also discusses the concern of each of the five Social Well-Being components and their evaluation categories and provides examples for rating the beneficial and adverse social effects of each evaluation category. These include: life, protection, and safety; health; family and individual; attitudes, values, and beliefs; and environmental contributions. The effects of alternative plans will vary with their nature and with the nature of the community in which individuals and families live. Primary data will probably have to be gathered in order to obtain information relevant to the likely long-range impacts on the planning area.
