ABSTRACT

Social welfare services in Nazareth are administered by the city’s Department of Social Services. The housing situation in Nazareth is greatly influenced by the composition of the population according to origin, and by the restricted area available for construction in the city. The limited extent of land for building in Nazareth, and of the land within the city’s jurisdiction generally, multiplied the dimensions of the housing problems. The Labor Exchange in Nazareth is supposed to deal with the unemployment problems of Nazareth residents and those of the surrounding villages. The elderly in Nazareth receive health services in clinics and institutions serving the general population, located within Nazareth and elsewhere. Nazareth has an Association for the Elderly, adjacent to the Department of Social Services. The incidence of problems in the area of family relations appears to be more conspicuous in Nazareth than in the rural communities.
