ABSTRACT

Unlike electronic warfare, intended for employment during hostilities, the radioelectronic struggle goes on in peacetime, too. The peacetime character of radioelectronic combat (REC) recalls the continuing ideological struggle in which the Communist Bloc sees itself as engaged. Obviously, REC, in spite of its peacetime character, would go to war in a big way. REC in its intended form as an integrated force employment concept could be implemented fully only in the most complex type of modern warfare. The general tenor of Soviet articles on REC suggests that few major military decisions can be made without considering REC as part of the picture. With the understanding that integration, in all its manifestations, forms the core of REC doctrine, can touch on a few high points of specific applications that the Soviets envision for it in time of war.
