ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the estimated costs, sources for acquisition, and scheduling for each of the thirteen generic items for the recommended improvement program. It summarizes costs by item type and by mission. The thirteen generic items are the following: long-range real-time standoff imaging radar systems, short-range real-time remotely piloted vehicle imagery systems, counterbattery radar systems, tactical early warning radar systems, improved communications, improved dissemination and processing of target acquisition information and aircraft dispensers and new area munitions. It also includes powered standoff aircraft dispensers and improved area munitions, smart munitions, improved air defense systems, additional Multiple Launch Rocket System, airfield attack missiles and follow-on force attack missiles. The most important and beneficial measure to ensure that the emerging delivery system/ munitions technologies are as effective, reliable, and countermeasure resistant as possible, is to provide for substantial and rigorous live testing under realistic field conditions.
