AFTER THE unsuccessful putsch in August 1991 and then the abolition of the Communist party, many wishful Muscovites awaited a kind of utopia. If Yeltsin could accomplish these remarkable feats, then he could perform still other miracles, such as ereating justice, prosperity, and freedom.
