ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the communication of information about new technology to junior management and to the workforce as a whole. It describes both with what to communicate and how to communicate. The chapter explores deals with the human relations aspects of introducing new technology successfully. It explains the challenges which firms face in adapting their training and apprenticeship schemes to the requirements of new technology. Most large or medium-sized firms use their existing communications procedures to disseminate information about the prospective employment of new technology. Job security goes hand-in-hand with job flexibility; an employee can reasonably expect a degree of job security provided he or she respects the management's right to assign him or her to whatever job the firm requires at any time. Everyone is agreed that what is required is to replace the long, low-grade and single-skill training by a shorter, higher quality and multi-skilled form of training.
