ABSTRACT
In this Chapter we informally introduce the idea of using wage differentials to measure the way in which individuals in fact value the QOL in different areas. In the next chapter a more formal, mathematical approach is taken. The chapter following that presents the empirical evidence and, as an example, applies it to a particular state.
