ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION (KCR)

Willoughby's four sections which deal with the metal artifacts found at the Hopewell site are grouped together for this publication. They include discussions of two major concentrations of metal artifacts; the deposit with skeletons 260 and 261, which includes adzes and axes, plates and nuggets of unworked and partly worked metal in Section A, and the deposit of symbolic shapes cut from copper sheet in Section B. Also included in Section A is an account of his experiments with the mineral algodonite, which has not previously been published. My discussion of these experiments appears in Section E.
