ABSTRACT

SECTION A: STONE TABLETS, CUT QUARTZ, AND RINGS FROM THE ALTARS (CCW)

A number of stone tablets of different sizes and varying thickness were taken from both altars. Many of these are perfect but several have been broken. Figs. 5.1 and 5.2 are drawings of a number of the more perfect specimens and show the variations in form. Two of the larger examples are shown in 5.1. These are of sandstone and are from five-eights of an inch to three-fourths of an inch thick through the center. In the majority of the specimens the surface is slightly convex, the tablet being thinnest near the edge. In Fig. 5.2 the tablets represented at the right are of sandstone, and those shown at the left are of limestone. The limestone tablets are frequently quite highly polished. The smallest limestone tablet shown in the drawing has been worn down by use. Very few of the specimens, however, show signs of wear.1
