ABSTRACT

The Peace Treaty stipulates that the force will be drawn from nations (1) to be agreed upon by the parties, and (2) other than those which are Permanent Members of the UN Security Council. 1 Once it became clear that the UN would not establish a force, the limitation on the participation of the US (as well as the other Permanent Members of the Security Council) became irrelevant. Israel insisted that the US send troops, as she considered this a physical manifestation consistent with the US political commitment for the MFC's effective and continued existence. (The actual problem of withdrawal of the force is dealt with separately in a later chapter.)
