ABSTRACT
One important ceremony people in rural China observe is Qing Ming, which literally means clarity and transparency. This is the occasion for people to pay respect to their ancestors by going to the graveyards and sweeping and repairing their ancestors’ tombs. This ceremony occurs in early April, when the spring air is fresh and cool, as the term qing ming implies.
