ABSTRACT

The Introduction provides a context for the development of the book. It discusses recent socio-historical changes and subsequent changes in our profession, and explains how we address these transformations in the book. Family and Couple Suffering was born from our increasing realization that there was a demand for new approaches to family and couple therapy that addressed the new challenges we are facing in our consulting rooms. Through our theoretical discussions, we realized that the various current modes of family and couple suffering were a constant presence in our clinical practice. That is how we decided to contribute instruments and tools for clinical work with links. The notion of clinical device has allowed us to develop different approaches to clinical work that may be used simultaneously or successively and that are tailored to the singularity of each case.

We believe that this book will be of use to a variety of readers: analysts in training; experienced analysts who seek answers to new clinical questions; other mental health professionals working with families, couples, and institutions; and social scientists interested in interdisciplinary approaches.
