ABSTRACT
Other stereo techniques can be used for overall pickup and are sometimes more suited to the situation than the Decca Tree. The principles behind three main categories of alternative stereo pickup are outlined (co-incident directional microphones, spaced omnis, and spaced and angled cardioids). The concepts of source width, image width, microphone mounting angle, and stereo recording angle are introduced and defined.
