ABSTRACT

A soloist with piano is very core repertoire for classical recording, and getting an appropriate image of each instrument with a believable sense of perspective and surrounding space can be difficult. The techniques of using of two microphones on the soloist is continued from Chapter 5. The most common instrumental combinations are discussed for both concert and recording studio layouts. Differences of approach due to individual instrumental characteristics are explained, with the intention that the techniques can be adapted to any instruments not explicitly described.
