ABSTRACT

This chapter, which covers the period of the earliest personal acquaintance of Byron and Hunt, traces Byron’s engagements with Hunt’s political newspaper: The Examiner . The evidence shows that the political and philosophical concerns Byron and Hunt shared with each other in their private correspondence frequently found their way into the pages of The Examiner. Therein Byron and Hunt publicly debated the merits of political figures like the Prince Regent and Napoleon during a turbulent period in England between 1812 and 1816.
