ABSTRACT

Physical energy expended by personnel under prolonged and stressful conditions should be a major concern to any manager. The consequences of fatigue, which is certain to impact morale, can affect the ability of both manager and subordinates to make lucid decisions. Organizations respond in various ways to the issue of how their staffs relate to expending physical energy and the resulting impact of fatigue and friction on job performance. Friction is the only concept that more or less corresponds to the factors that distinguish real conflict from conflict on paper. This tremendous friction, which cannot be reduced to a few points, is everywhere in contact with chance. According to Carl von Clausewitz, friction in its innumerable forms remains chronic and ever-present in market confrontations. Market maneuvers often require bold moves to throw competitors off track. Such maneuvers can only be carried out by individuals who exhibit the skills and discipline honed through ongoing training.
