ABSTRACT

The central theme of this book being the grand strategy of the Bangladesh Liberation War, this chapter dwells on the historical transformation and changed perception of strategy, as applicable in modern warfare. This chapter aims to bring greater clarity to the nebulous concept of strategy, its attributes, and correlation with other components of state machinery in the conduct of war. The art of warfare is practiced at three levels: strategic, operational, and tactical. For most of history two conceptual levels of warfare and command sufficed: strategy- how to win war and tactics-how to win battle. Strategy and tactics have long been studied and described, but the less studied third level of war, operational art has been briefly covered in this book along with strategy and tactics.
