ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors want to mention that the question of the subject’s desire to create and employ new technologies, from information to robotics, can also be approached from the perspective of the question of power and phallic jouissance. Psychoanalytically, the people could wonder about why someone might want to go beyond what is offered as a limitation to her/himself; living in a mortal body and dealing with a constant double-knowledge of knowing one will die one day whilst also keeping this fact as distant as possible. Jouissance belongs to the subject of body and language with a transgressive, transcending and destructive essence. As much as psychoanalysis can be dismissive about some other sciences, the scientists seem to have limited knowledge of what constitutes a subject who develops desire and drive and has access to jouissance which is not simply a pleasure.
