ABSTRACT

This chapter further develops the ideas discussed in the previous chapter. It introduces and guides students through the range of other forms of writing they may encounter as part of their formal assessment; particularly those where there is a very limited word allowance. Hints are given on writing reports which summarise practical and project work; short assessments such as preparing a seminar paper; making a poster presentation; a case study or a reflective commentary. Students are introduced to the specific conventions which govern these different forms of short entry writing together with an explanation of the art of precis and writing a critical review. It concludes with more specific guidance on writing a dissertation.
