ABSTRACT
This chapter briefly considers ancient Near Eastern heteronormativity before reviewing the evidence for male homosexuality and how the data were treated in ancient and modern times. Case studies include Gilgameš and Enkidu, David and Jonathan, Leviticus and Sodom, and Horus and Seth, with a final look at some Hittite rituals intended to cure effeminacy.
