ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on leadership at the district and school levels and how leadership and strategy are connected. Specifically, the chapter highlights the conditions that leaders in education—formal and informal—can create to enable the success of the strategy and to ensure it aligns with and is deeply rooted in the principles of Equity, Logic, Coherence, and Capacity.

It also addresses how principals and “mezzanine” level leaders—those who serve as intermediaries between teachers and principals (teacher leaders, coaches, and those in similar roles)—work in concert to ensure effective conditions for teachers and students to learn and grow.
