ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is an innovative and comprehensive guide to the field of puppet-assisted play therapy. It is intended to help one become more effective, fun, and creative in their practice with children. The book includes discussions of relevant history, theory, research, practice, case studies, specific creative therapeutic interventions, and the art of puppetry. It provides unique techniques for personalization based on the therapist’s personality and creativity. The book answers the questions that are commonly asked by the numerous mental health practitioners and educators who already include puppets in their repertoire of toys. It recommends specific techniques for the various therapy components e.g., engagement, assessment intervention, and terminations, including processing questions, dialogue, and games for use in treatment plans.
