ABSTRACT

Researchers have used the fun theory to explain human behavior throughout history. Puppetry is an example of a tradition that is explainable by the fun theory. Puppetry is an ancient art form that has been part of performances, ceremonies, and celebrations for centuries. Puppetry as an art form dates back to the ancient societies of Egypt and Greece, as well as various Native American cultures. More information on the history of puppetry may be found in A.R. Philpott’s Puppets and Therapy, in which the author synthesizes an informal collection of reports, articles, commentary, and reviews about various aspects of this field. Puppetry has remained a thriving art form in modern-day culture, serving as a medium to communicate, entertain, challenge ideas, and assist with therapy. Television uses puppets for education. Bible studies use puppets to illustrate scripture. Some cultures use ceremonial puppets to portray spiritual topics.
