ABSTRACT
In an attempt to situate think tanks in India within the policy landscape, this chapter provides theoretical and methodological arguments that best explain the behaviour and impact of think tanks in the global literature. It presents the work of scholars of ideas and institutions and their critique that has led to the development of the DI-Gramscian perspective in this study - an approach that seeks to understand processes/interactions through which think tanks attempt to contribute as policy actors in India.
