Chapter 9, the conclusion, links the themes of Chapters 3 through 8 to the theoretical framework laid out in Chapter 2. It summarises the small and ambitious reforms, initiatives and measures recommended throughout the book, navigating an increasingly complex international legal framework and utilising both Western and Indian discourses. It concludes with support for women’s human rights as universal but argues that the implementation of those rights can and must be modified by the cultural context of India. Gender equality inevitably resists, rather than accommodating, relativist approaches to the interpretation of human rights. We use language as our instrument and law our as our most powerful mechanism to effect change.
