ABSTRACT

Liverpool in the late nineteenth century was the second biggest port in the world next to London. Its workforce, dominated by shipbuilding and the docks, was primarily casual and unskilled. The Objects of the Association are to find Employment and give Relief to its Members, to collect and disseminate information, and to do all such things as can be lawfully done to benefit the Unemployed. The Committee shall have power to appoint Sub-Committees and make Bye-Laws for its own management. In case any addition or alteration is carried by resolution or amendment at an Annual or Special Meeting it shall be subject to the confirmation of a subsequent meeting of the Association before it can form part of the Rules, such subsequent meeting to be held within one month after the proposed alteration or addition has been carried; and at least one week’s notice of the adjourned meeting shall be given to every Member of the Association.
