ABSTRACT

The systematic planning of teaching and learning is one of the essential key skills teachers and educators need to have and/or develop. It is a crucial activity, and teachers must prepare for the inclusion of all children in the teaching and learning process. Specifically, it is during the lesson planning stage that teachers conceptualise different ways for allowing all learners to have access to developing the required knowledge, skills and know-how. Hence, they ensure that different students will have the chance to progress and succeed. It is also at this stage that teachers conceptualise levels of support as well as scaffolding and the means required to support learning. Chapter 5 starts by arguing that Universal Design Learning can provide a basis that teachers can use to guide their teaching (‘praxis’) and advocates for its combined use alongside Learning Power Theory (introduced in Chapter 1, as ‘ethos’). Following this, ten steps are sequentially presented and discussed with the aim of supporting music teachers in the development and creation of inclusive lesson plans. Various teaching methodologies are presented in step four of the ten mentioned steps.
