ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on permissiveness and the other reforms related to abortion that were passed during the 1960s. Dee focuses on abortion reform in relation to the changing laws on homosexuality, divorce and the death penalty to demonstrate the shift in political ideas about the body. Dee also looks at Second Reading debates to analyse the concerns of the politicians and goes on to discuss the three main anti-abortion groups. This includes a discussion of the Catholic Church, the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children and LIFE and the creation of each group’s anti-abortion ideology, tactical decisions and key founding members.
