ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the difficulties with the implementation of the 1967 Abortion Act. This includes a detailed look at the Lane Committee and the Lane report, and its recommendations. Dee also looks at Babies for Burning, a book which accused abortion providers of murder and malpractice, and was eventually exposed as libel. In addition, Dee discusses the role of the medical profession in the abortion decision and the creation of nursing homes and other pregnancy services that operated both inside and outside of the NHS.
