ABSTRACT

Developmental coaching differentiates support to individuals depending on where they are in their arc of professional development. According to developmental theory, adults gain an independent sense of self and maturity by reflecting on their life experiences and social interactions. Through developmental coaching, a person can become more in control of their behavior and better able to manage the interpersonal factors that affect them. School leaders should use developmental coaching to provide appropriate learning opportunities and support to their faculty. An effective developmental coach identifies the stage of development occupied by the person to be coached. The job of a developmental coach is also to support them in understanding where they are and how to progress.
