ABSTRACT

Hiring the right staff is critical to the success of a school. A selection model enables the school to find the faculty who are the right fit for the school. A school leader should consider the unique qualities of the school program and emphasize them during the selection process. A solid selection process asks candidates to demonstrate their competency through a demonstration lesson or an on-demand task. School leaders can be a part of the team or have designated a senior member of the leadership team, who has an experienced instructional background, to manage the hiring process. Leaders should also ask members of the school faculty to assist in the hiring process. Schools should complete their hiring process by May, since many of the best prospects have already committed to other schools after this point. Leaders should understand that having an organized hiring calendar and devoting the necessary time and resources to hiring are critically important.
