ABSTRACT

Having strong operational systems allows schools to run smoothly so students and faculty can focus on learning. They are the precondition necessary for all school instructional success and should not consume a school leader’s day-to-day schedule. To ensure overall school success, a school leader should watch a few key operational areas: attendance, scheduling, and facilities management. Attendance is often considered the most basic element of school operations but is often overlooked as an essential measure of a school’s success. Scheduling is one of the most challenging parts of planning for a new school year. A student schedule must allow all students access to the courses they need in a given year. Clear weekly faculty and staff schedules should be created for leadership team meeting time, teacher team meetings, professional-development sessions, and scheduled teacher observations. Every school leader must do a comprehensive assessment of school facilities before the end of the school year.
