ABSTRACT

Effective prioritization ensures leaders focus on the right things at the right time. Task prioritization aligns leaders’ time, resources, and energy to realize key goals. If a leader fails to prioritize the tasks most critical to the school’s goals and objectives, they will lead inefficiently and ineffectively. Strategic prioritizing of the leader’s personal tasks to the school’s overall goals will maximize organizational success. Another crucial component to effective prioritization is the need to choose the tasks most pertinent to their leadership role. A few tasks can be accomplished only by the school leader. All effective school leaders know how to differentiate between unique leadership tasks and tasks that can readily be assigned to others. Effective leadership delegation is thus a critical component of prioritization. School leaders who struggle with determining what is most important often fall into the trap of focusing their efforts on what seems most urgent.
