ABSTRACT

With policies like the Every Student Succeeds Act and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, schools are faced with the challenge of supporting an increasingly diverse set of learners in an inclusive setting. Co-teaching provides teachers an opportunity to collaborate to benefit students who have different learning needs. Two educators working together allows for a smaller teacher-student ratio and thus more individualized student attention for students who may need extra support. Team teaching is another co-teaching model that encourages teachers to collaborate with each other to deliver the strongest and most creative lessons. Leaders must thoughtfully consider the pairs they establish to bring together teachers who are open to building positive partnerships with a colleague.
