ABSTRACT

This chapter explores three core themes based on findings from this research. First, most of the artists working with Injalak Arts were members of the Djalama clan. Second, most of the artists lived in one particular part of the Gunbalanya community – Arrkuluk. Third, there were different levels of engagement with Injalak Arts. Together these themes speak to the broader community and social context of art production in Gunbalanya and especially at Injalak Arts. In this chapter, I highlight that particular configurations of people (such as outstation-based artists) had common ways of engaging with the community that the art centre offered.
