ABSTRACT

In this book, I explore how an arts organisation such as Injalak Arts stimulates the formation and re-negotiation of different socially constituting configurations involving artists. Injalak Arts, with its relatively short history, has influenced relationships between individuals, families, and clans in western Arnhem Land, largely through the creation of a place binding artists to each other. This chapter explores the suitability of the concept of community for discussing social engagements taking place at and around Injalak Arts. Through the exploration of the meaning of community, the nature of the Injalak Arts community is concurrently highlighted.
